In November 2020 my and my husband will be going to New York City. My husband turns 40 in November and I thought it would be a great experience to celebrate it together in the… More
Yesterday we went to the LX factory in Lisbon which I can truly recommend to anyone who likes concept stores and beautiful food places.
A little outside the city centre of Lisbon, the LX Factory is a collection of small boutique shops, studios, and little restaurants and deli’s. It is a lovely place to stroll around, have a bite and enjoy a nice and quiet afternoon. Perfect for an afternoon cocktail with friends.
on holiday at the moment in southern spain, which is absolutely lovely and gorgeous. At the moment, however, were encountering a not so sunny day, so i decided to spend it reading my countless magazines I never have time to catch up with during the year.
They range from magazines on home and garden, to beauty magazines, to, yes, mom and baby magazines 🙂 My husband is out for his first golf lesson, so he will be out all afternoon.
this gives me some time to catch up on my magazines and my blog of course, which I have neglected completely over the past months. The next blogs might be a bit unorganized, but I am trying to catch a lot of information that flows freely through my mind at the moment.
Being on a holiday on The BEAUTIFUL island of Sint Maarten I thought it would be a good opportunity to recommend one of the best places I’ve been to on this island.
Sint Maarten is a small island. Still it’s really hard to find your way around it without a car. When you drive away from the airport and follow airport road into the interior of the island, you will cross a small bridge which separates the yacht marina from the open sea. After about 300 meters on your left there is a place called Top Carrot.
Turn left! You will be sorry if you don’t. Top carrot is probably one of the healthiest food and drink establishments on the island. Whereas most of the dishes on the island contain greasy meat and rice and beans, top carrot is the place to get your daily fruit and veggie intake.
It has all the fruit juices and smoothies you can imagine, blended fresh right in front of you. The salads and sandwiches are delightful too. Try the lentil soup, or the courgette and cauliflower quiche, both equally yummy.
Inside is nice and air conditioned, and the place also has plenty of books on healthy living, yoga etc. besides they sell cute jewelry and soaps. A bit of everything really.
The staff is patient and friendly, which cannot be said of many other places in Sint Maarten.
Please don’t miss this gem when you visit the island, it’s truly an absolute happy and health boost.
2014… Wow. I am so excited for this year to begin. I love new beginnings, always have. It gives me the feeling of a clean slate, a fresh start, new chances for new beginnings.
And that’s why I always have tons of New Years resolutions, of which most usually fail, but hey! It’s better than having none and don’t try at all, right?
This year I only have one. Getting peace and rest in my head. Work is so busy, life is crazy hectic, I’m going to marry the love of my life in July and the wedding planning causes quite some stress. The pressure of having to perform and the pressure I put on myself to use every second of the day efficiently and wisely, puts an enormous amount of stress on my body and my mind. I have constant headaches and sometimes don’t know where to get my energy from.
That’s why I’m gonna try to get peace in my head. I believe it starts there, and then the rest will follow. So as of this weekend I will pick up yoga again. There’s this nice little yoga school around the corner of my house, yogay yoga, and they offer various classes from intense to relax and energized. I think I will start with the relaxation class and then maybe after a while pick up the more intense classes.
I have tried yoga before and I remember that it brought me a lot of peace and serenity. I hope it will again.
My New Years resolutions never start of January 1 as I’m usually too tired from the night before to function properly and alter my lifestyle. So from tomorrow on I will focus on peace and rest.
Today I am just as lazy as my cat, see picture.
Last tuesday I went for pre-birthday dinner in one of my favourite spots in Amsterdam: Rose’s Cantina. Rose’s Cantina has been around for decades, but recently it has had a make over and the results are quite stunning I must say. Rose’s Cantina opened over 30 years ago as the first Mexican restaurants in Amsterdam, and set a standard for all Mexican restaurants to follow.
After the make over Rose’s is not solely a Mexican restaurant anymore, but the menu quotes ‘Pan-American’. Owners of Rose’s Cantina, restaurant company Dobson & Uzcudun (known from the Rancho restaurants in town), teamed up with Casper Reinders (known for his popular formulas like Jimmy Woo, Bo Cinq, Bar Paul etc.) to make Rose’s one of the new hotspots in town.
Before I continue I must say that I might not be completely objective, as my boyfriend works for the company which owns Rose’s Cantina. That said, I would never recommend a place I didn’t believe in myself.
First of all, the interior looks quite stunning. The dark green walls and the hanging lights from the ceiling give the place a magical touch. What adds to the magic is a huge toy airplane above the entrance.
Roses changes her menu every once in a while, to keep surprising the guests and challenging her chefs. The new menu has just been introduced, and it is full of new dishes, such as the Philadelphia cheese steak, and the Ceviche acapulco. The menu has the look of a newspaper, with all the latest Rose’s news.
For starters we had the Ceviche Acapulco and the Penne Arrabbiata. The ceviche acapulco is an extended version of the traditional ceviche, accompanied with avocado and octopus among others. The ceviche of the day was swordfish. As always the ceviche was exceptional, although I must say I like their cod ceviche better than swordfish.
nb. note that the pictures might seem a bit vague, I only had my iphone camera with me. Better preparation next time!
The penne Arrabbiata was also great, although maybe a bit heavy for a starter. If you’re not a big eater, don’t try this one. If you’re very hungry, please do! The arrabbiata had the right amount of spice, but beware, not for the faint hearted.
My partner tried the Rib-eye steak. As you can expect from Argentinian owners (Dobson&Uzcudun) the meat is imported from Argentina, and as tasty as you could wish for. The waiter didn’t ask how we wanted the steak done, but the chef cooked it medium-rare, which is the absolute best for a proper rib eye steak.
To top the joy, Rose’s Cantina serves my favourite wine; Petit Chablis. 2 years ago I went to France and did a wine tour in the Chablis area. As the top wines from the Chablis area are the premier and grand cru, I fell completely in love with Chablis’ baby sister, Petit Chablis. It is very high in minerals and has a slightly more acidic taste than the other Chablis. Roses is one of the few restaurants in Amsterdam that serves Petit Chablis (my boyfriend might have has something to do with that 😉 ), and I recommend trying it to everyone.
Furthermore Roses is the perfect place for a night out, drinking cocktails, have fun, relax, enjoy.
SO…. What are you waiting for? Go check that place out! With love from Rose, xoxo.
As you might have noticed I am very fond of challenges. One of the Instagram accounts I follow, simplegreensmoothies, starts a new challenge in October. One green smoothie a day for a month, and as you might guess I have decided to join.
As the portions in the recipes add up to two glasses, I asked my fiancé to join. He is never much into sudden change of behaviour or my health quests, but to my surprise he agreed to join!
To warm up I made a really yummy green smoothie this morning, which I will share you. The recipe comes from simplegreensmoothies.
2 cups of spinach
2 cups or fresh orange juice
1 cup of frozen mango
1/2 cup of carrots (grated)
On top I added some chia seeds. The result was much better that I expected! Even my fiancé was surprised.
I will try to keep you posted on our October challenge. If you have any delicious recipes I should try please share below
A year ago I started a home study on healthy food and nutrition. Because I got so busy with work and a wedding coming up (yay!), I never really got around to it, but today I picked it up again!
Chapter for today: fats. I might spend another blogpost on it later, as it is very interesting to learn the function of fats in the body.
Did you know, for example, that only fats have the ability to transport vitamin A,D,E, and K through the body?
Enjoy your Sunday!
Today I will start with a new health test: beetroot juice. Books and websites claim that it has many health benefits. I will drink it mainly to benefit my skin.
My skin condition has been poor in the last year, and I have no idea what’s causing it.
I will keep you posted on the results. I would love to hear your experiences with beetroot juice. 🙂
Although Chlorella sounds more like a detergent than like a food, I can tell you it is one of the most powerful superfoods out there.
Chlorella is a genus of single-cell green algae that was originally found in the rivers and lakes of East Asia. Chlorella exists for over two billion years but was first discovered by a Dutch microbiologist Martinus Willem Beijerinck in 1890. Its name derives from the greek word ‘chloros’, meaning green, after the color it gives the rivers and lakes in Asia. Nowadays an average of 5 million people worldwide have included chlorella into their daily diet.
Chlorella contains all vitamins (except D), minerals, fibres, enzymes, proteins and much more. Unique about chlorella is a substance which makes that the algae can reproduce itself within 10 hours only. This substance can help the reproduction of cells in the human body as well. Chlorella also contains DNA and RNA, which makes it an essential superfood because it helps to prevent the ageing process of the body. On top of that Chlorella is also known to be a great detoxer. It attracts toxins in our body and ‘gently escorts’ them out.
How to include chlorella in your daily diet
Chlorella can be bought in several forms. You can take it as a powder and mix it through your daily smoothie, or you can take it as a capsule or tablet in the morning with a glass of lukewarm water. Your pick.
